UK weather forecast: Britain BRACED for heavy downpours and THUNDER storms

The Met Office says thunder could strike today, with heavy showers expected in parts of Wales, the Midlands and East Anglia. Although there is expected to be a lot of rain, no flood warnings have been put in place. Marco Pentagna, meteorologist at the Met Office, said that rain is likely to break out across the UK on Monday morning.

He said: “For the rest of the day it also stays quite cloudy across the central and southern parts of the UK and at times Northern Ireland.

“Two further outbreaks of rain developing here on the north through the day some that could well turn thundery and quite heavy in nature, especially across the Midlands.

“This also includes parts of northwest England as we head into the afternoon so the north and east of this will see plenty of sunshine, especially across the west of Scotland but some low clouds lingering.”

On Monday, early low cloud will break, leaving many fine and dry.

However, low cloud will tend to linger across the coast of northeast England.

By Monday evening, showers, still possibly thundery, will become more widespread across Wales, the Midlands and southeast England, before moving southwards into the rest of southern UK.

It will remain mainly dry with clear spells elsewhere.

The weather is expected to pick up by Wednesday, with the west of England experiencing bright, dry spells.

Elsewhere, the Met Office says will be largely fine and dry, although breezier and tending to feel a little cooler than Monday.

Mr Petagna added: “Temperatures on Monday will be no better than 8 or 9C.

“We’ve been given some sunshine towards the south between this showers.

“It should quite easily go into the mid-teens after on Monday and I think towards the southeast, especially across Cambridge where we could see highs of 18 or even 19C.”
