UK weather forecast: Britain to be BATTERED by mid-week downpours before weekend SCORCHER

Aidan McGivern meteorologist at the Met Office said: “It’s a week of two halves as far as the weather is concerned, cool at first with some lively showers around and then later in the week it’s going to warm up considerably.” The meteorologist reported that there will be plenty of sunshine in southern Britain by the weekend but in between there will be some very wet weather across western Britain, particularly over the hills. This is because of the position of the jet-stream which is moving to the south of the UK and causing a cool showery air flow in its place.

Mr McGivern said: “But, look at the contrast for the end of the week the jet stream pushes north again bringing these warmer colours especially to southern Britain and bringing a return to some sunshine.

“However on its journey northwards that jet stream will bring lashings of rainfall especially over the hills of western Britain, from Wales northwards.”

He added: “On Tuesday there will be a touch of frost around and some of the showers for northern Scotland will be sleety with snow over the Scottish mountains.

“But, for Western Scotland, Northern Ireland and later in the day for Wales, and the southwest, the showers ease away to bring plenty of sunshine.”

The meteorologist went on to say that there will be developing showers across central and eastern Britain with some heavy downpours around with sunshine though South Wales into the west country.

Mr McGivern said: “There will be 20 degree temperatures elsewhere, feeling quite cool, but a change is on the way as we end Tuesday and go into Wednesday where the fronts start to move in from the West.

“They will bring rain but they’ll also bring more humid air flow from the southwest, before that happens it will be a chilly start on Wednesday with temperatures close to freezing.

“In some sheltered spots there will be a touch of frost first thing but then it will soon cloud over during Wednesday morning and we will lose the early brightness especially in the West where rain soon sets in.

“There will be a wet day to come for southwest Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and in the southwest and that rain will push its way east, but largely avoiding the far north and east through the day.

“By Thursday however it starts to dry up across the south but it’s going to continue to be wet across western Scotland, Northern Ireland and the western hills of northwest England and Wales.

“As we head into Friday with temperatures on the rise day by day.

“On Saturday and Sunday temperatures will climb into the mid or even the high 20s, so a very warm weekend to come.”
