UK weather forecast: SIX-WEEK HEATWAVE to bake Britain with 95F temps – 'Barbecue month!'

Temperatures will rocket back into the 30Cs after the weekend amid forecasts hot weather will hold out through August. The mercury poised to rocket nationwide with blue skies and sunshine set to dominate the rest of summer, according to some long-range forecasters. However it will not come without the odd dousing with extreme heat threatening to let off explosive thunderstorms, they warn.

Sun-loving Brits can look forward to a ‘barbecue August’ with thermometers likely to hit the 35C (95F)-mark within weeks, according to Exacta Weather’s James Madden.

He said: “August is looking like the best month of summer and is likely to deliver maximum temperatures in the mid-30Cs at the very least.

“This is not going to be restricted to southern parts of the country, even Scotland and the far north of England could see temperatures hitting these extreme values at times during the end of July and through August.

“However severe humidity could become a real issue and despite a potentially countrywide barbecue August, we can also expect a triggering of widespread and vigorous thunderstorm activity within this period.”

Government forecasters also predict above-average temperatures are possible through the first half of August.

Britain can look forward to a fortnight of fine, dry weather with the odd thundery outbreak in the mix, according to the Met Office.

Temperatures will take an upward turn this weekend with warm sunshine pushing the mercury to 25C (77F) across southern Britain.

A tropical blast from the Continent will join forces with ‘home-grown’ heat in the UK to bring what could be the hottest burst of summer so far.

Met Office meteorologist Bonnie Diamond said: “Temperatures will rise quite widely on Sunday with plenty of sunshine, and this sets us up for the start of the week.

“We have high pressure building from the Continent bringing warm air to the south of the UK, across the north it will be unsettled as there is an area of low pressure to the north bringing some quite strong winds.

“During the start of the week temperatures will rise as warm air comes up from the Continent, there will also be home-grown warmth due to high pressure over Britain.

“There is a chance we could see 32C (89.6F) in parts of the country by Tuesday.”

While the longer-term outlook is uncertain signals point towards a warmer than usual start to August, she added.

She said: “At the end of July there will be more of a chance of drier weather across the south temperatures are likely to be above average through the start of August.

“There is the chance of occasional thundery breakdowns.”

Katie Greening, a meteorologist for The Weather Company, said after a soggy start to the weekend the weather will pick up from Sunday.

She said: “Pressure will build from the south and It’ll turn drier from Sunday, although Atlantic low pressure cells skirting western Britain will give outbreaks of rain to Ireland and Scotland.

“It will be hot next week as air is drawn northward off the near-continent.

“Temperatures hitting the low 30Cs in the southeast but widely the mid to high 20Cs.”
