It is important to prep your body before hitting the beach

ONE MONTH TO GO…

BEST FOOT FORWARD

Having stuffed our feet into shoes all winter the chances are they now need some TLC.

“Use a foot file twice a week on dry skin,” says podiatrist and foot expert Margaret Dabbs.

“This, as well as daily moisturising, will help to improve the condition of your feet, including cracks, calluses, blisters, broken skin and discoloured nails.”

Pop feet into the SVR Xerial Peel, £17 (feelunique.com), exfoliating socks containing a potent urea-based formula that encourages skin renewal.

Remove remaining dry skin with the Margaret Dabbs Professional Foot File, £24 (margaretdabbs.co.uk).

TONE UP

While every body is beach-ready, with a month to go you might want to focus your gym workouts on the areas on show in a bikini.

“Save time by choosing moves that target the bottom and tummy in one,” says Hannah Bright, personal trainer at DW Fitness First (dwfitnessfirst.com).

“Squats and hip thrusts incorporate a lot of muscle groups in just one exercise. They target the glutes, while engaging the core.

“And don’t forget that your posture can also make a massive difference, so stand tall and walk confidently on the beach.”

BUM NOTE

Over 90 per cent of women have some form of cellulite but if it makes you feel self-conscious there’s a brand new beauty device that can help.

Assome!, £199 (assome.co.uk), is an at-home cellulitebusting kit combining ultrasound therapy to reduce fat cells under the skin, radiofrequency to tighten skin and LED light to boost skin health and tone.

To use, massage the machine over your bum and thighs in circular motions. You can expect to see results in three weeks.

SCRUB UP

Buffing away dull skin cells before you head off on holiday will help to ensure an even tan.

“Exfoliation not only improves the surface skin texture, tone and health but it stimulates blood flow and flushes out toxins to reduce the appearance of cellulite,” says Nichola Joss, Decleor skincare expert.

“It will also allow body creams to work harder by allowing more penetration into the skin.”

Use the Decleor 1000 Grain Body Exfoliator, £29 (decleor.co.uk), for an all-over-body scrub while in a warm bath. “

This will also help to remove any ingrown hairs,” says Nichola.

BROW-VO

Getting your brows waxed and tinted will save you time on holiday and stop brow make-up running in the heat.

“The tint will add definition and make your brows look instantly thicker, meaning that you’ll need to use less product during your break,” says Lisa Potter-Dixon, head make-up artist and brow expert for Benefit Cosmetics.

The Benefit Brow Wax & Brow Tint, £22.50 (benefitcosmetics.com), is available nationwide.

CHOP CHOP

A mixture of sun and seawater can lead to frazzled locks. So give your hair a boost before you go.

“It isn’t a good idea to colour hair before a holiday but getting a healthy trim is always wise,” says stylist Paul Windle of Windle & Moodie.

“This prevents fractured ends caused by the friction of the wind, especially on a beach.”

Use Windle & Moodie Ultra Nourishing Treatment Shampoo, £24, and Conditioner, £26 (windleandmoodie.com) to give hair a hydration boost.

“Make sure you continue to condition the hair throughout your holiday too,” says Paul.

BEAT THE BLOAT

A mixture of sitting down all day, stress and eating and drinking the wrong things can lead to a bloated tummy. The key is to rehydrate.

“Drink at least 1.5 litres of water. If you’re feeling bloated you might think it is best not to drink but not drinking actually makes fluid retention worse, in the same way that crash dieting makes the body hang on to fat because it thinks it’s starving,” says Helen Ford, nutritionist at Glenville Nutrition Clinics (glenvillenutrition.com).

“Avoid caffeine as it depletes minerals which can lead to bloating and stock up on nettle and dandelion herbal teas, which support liver and kidney function.”

ONE DAY TO GO…

THE BIG DE-FUZZ

Perfecting your pins before you hit the beach can be a big confidence boost.

Epilation will leave you fuzz-free for up to four weeks.

The clever technology in the Braun Silk-epil 9 SensoSmart, £209.99 (amazon.co.uk) alerts you if you press too hard, to avoid irritating the skin.

Or save time by shaving with the Venus ComfortGlide Vanilla Creme Razor, £10.49 (superdrug.com), featuring body butter moisture bars which care for your skin.

“Exfoliating before hair removal helps to lift the hairs away from the skin, allowing them to be captured more easily,” says skin specialist Dr Anita Sturnham.

“After hair removal apply moisturiser to help lock in hydration. Look for natural ingredients such as aloe vera and vitamin E, which offer anti-inflammatory properties.”

NAIL IT

No summer look is complete without a bright manicure. Make sure yours lasts with a good base and top coat.

“Cleanse the nail free from dry skin, dust and oil. And always use a base coat and top coat,” says celebrity nail artist Jenni Draper.

Try the OPI Base Coat, £13.50, and Top Coat, £13.50 (opiuk.com).

“Summer is definitely the season to wear oranges and lemons so be brave and go for a citrus bright to compliment your tan,” says Jenni.

Try OPI Infinite Shine in Summer Lovin’ Having A Blast!, £14.50 (opiuk.com), a zingy orange shade.

GET GLOWING

Don’t tan? Don’t worry. Why not fake it before you go?

“Exfoliating is key as it creates an even skin surface for the tan to be applied on to. Splash the skin with cold water directly after to calm the skin,” says tanning expert Jules Von Hep.

“Wait a minimum of an hour and apply two generous coats to the body and one coat to the face, using Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Mousse (£19.95, boots.com) and an applicator mitt.

“Don’t drink alcohol on the plane as it dehydrates your skin and makes your tan fade faster.”

ONE HOUR TO GO…

FRESH FACED

Prep your skin before a flight with a thorough cleanse.

“Wearing heavy make-up when flying can clog the skin’s pores,” says Sarah Chapman, celebrity facialist and founder of Sarah Chapman Skinesis.

Cleanse before you leave the house with Nuxe Aquabella Micro-Exfoliating Purifying Gel, £12 (uk.nuxe.com).

“A tinted moisturiser such as the Sarah Chapman Skin Insurance (£49, sarahchapman.net) offers some coverage while hydrating the skin and allowing it to breathe,” says Sarah.

HYDRATING HERO

A product containing hyaluronic acid is your best friend in the air as the molecules bind to water and help to lock moisture in the skin.

“Reapply around every three hours and use eye cream and lip balm. I always travel with travelsized eye masks too,” says Kirsti Shuba, co-founder of Katherine Daniels Cosmetics.

Try Katherine Daniels Instant Effect Eye Masks, £58 for four (katherinedanielscosmetics.com), which come in tiny travel-friendly packs.

“Many air travellers use a spritz on their face but this actually is counter-intuitive as spraying water will dry out the skin even more,” adds Kirsti.
