Trump’s Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross appeared to be nodding off during the US President’s speech. A video of the speech shows cut aways of Mr Ross with his chin on his chest and his glasses slightly falling off his nose.

Another cut away zoomed in on Mr Ross shows his eyes slowly closing as he appears to drift off.

He remains lethargic throughout the speech as the camera focuses on him but he quickly becomes more alert as he notices the camera directed at him.

During the speech, the US President denounced Iran’s “bloodlust” and called on other nations to help the US pressure on Iran.

The announcement came after Iran’s alleged attacks on Saudi oil facilities.

However, Trump also said there is a path to peace.

Trump said: “America knows that while anyone can make war, only the most courageous can choose peace.”

The leaders of France and Britain pressed Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani to meet Trump.

Throughout the speech, Trump stressed the US’s desire for peace, asking for collective action.

The assembly remained fairly silent compared to his previous speeches when he threatened to wipe out North Korea which garnered a collective gasp from the audience.

Iran has denied involvement on the Saudi attacks on oil facilities even though the Middle East is now concerned about an impending war.

However, Trump has remained restrained in the crisis and has not activated a military response despite pressure from his allies.

He promised he would continue to put pressure on Iran’s economy using sanctions until Tehran gives up its pursuit of nuclear weapons.

Iran has said its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

Trump said: “All nations have a duty to act.

“No responsible government should subsidize Iran’s bloodlust.

“As long as Iran’s menacing behavior continues, sanctions will not be lifted, they will be tightened.”

Mr Rouhani responded to Trump’s “bloodlust” comment in an interview clip aired by Fox News.

The Iranian President said the US was carrying out airstrikes in Syria.

He added: “And today America unfortunately is a supporter of terrorism in our region.

“And wherever America has gone, terrorism has expanded in their wake.”
