Bon Jovi halts concert after ‘singing like s**t’ as doctors demand gigs be postponed
The rock group are well-known and continually praised for their break-away classic hits, and are still going strong – but people were treated to a less than stellar performance Wednesday night.
Some concert-goers were left devastated when singer Jon Bon Jovi explained to his audience that he had been suffering from a cold since Saturday night and halted the show early.
According to reports, he even suggested a member of the crowd could come up on-stage and fill in for him.
He reportedly joked: “This is the day when I need a karaoke singer. Which one of you guys in a bar band knows all the words to Bon Jovi songs?”
One fan expressed his frustration on the band’s website, but still managed to show his support: “I sincerely feel so badly about Jon’s bronchitis, but I feel he should have postponed Pittsburgh if he wasn’t feeling well enough to provide us with the shows we had the pleasure of experiencing in years past.
“I will forever remain a true fan club member, but just disappointed with last night’s performance.”
The 55 year old singer also told the crowd as he struggled through his notes: “I think I’m singing like sh*t tonight, and I apologise. But I’m gonna keep pushing on and if you stick it out with me, I’ll stick it out with you.”
The news was posted on the website yesterday, saying: “Based on doctors’ recommendations, Bon Jovi’s concerts at Madison Square Garden must unfortunately be rescheduled, due to the bronchitis that Jon Bon Jovi has been fighting.”
The statement also alludes to the band recognising that their performances would not be up to scratch at the moment: “The decision was difficult to make, but made in the interest of delivering the full, powerhouse performance for which Bon Jovi is known.”
Bon Jovi wrapped up the show Wednesday night with a performance of the cult favourite “Livin’ on a Prayer”, unable to continue any further.
A representative for the singer also said: “Despite his illness, he gave it his all.”
Tickets already purchased for the New York concerts will still be honoured for the band’s rescheduled dates.
