Star Wars: Rogue One Darth Vader scenes are Steve Bannon home movies, says Mark Hamill
As Trump was addressing the media whilst en route to Mar-a-Lago, speaking about the Syrian crisis, the spin-off was playing on a nearby screen.
Now, Hamill – a vocal critic of the President of the United States – has joked that he got the scenes confused with something else.
A reporter asked the Luke Skywalker star: “Hey @HamillHimself, what’s your take on Trump watching #RogueOne while being interviewed on Air Force One? #MonitorOnRight.”
The actor replied: “#RogueOne? I thought they were just screening Steve Bannon’s home movies.”
Diego Luna, who stars in the smash, also spoke out about the moment.
Posting on Instagram, he said: “Do you recognize the film Trump’s watching on Air Force One? Aparently [sic] he loves diversity… but just in a galaxy far, far away!!”
Rogue One’s message, “rebellions are built on hope”, has been adopted by protesters in recent months since Trump took office, making the movie’s appearance on Air Force One all the more surprising.
It remains to be seen whether or not the pictures will be referenced at all at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando this week.
