Venom runtime: How long is Venom? Total running time revealed

Superhero movies are, on the whole, rather long – with some Marvel movies nearing three hours.

Some fans relish in the extra time spent sitting in the cinema, watching their favourite characters on screen.

Others get bored after an hour-and-a-half, their attention span clocking out.

With the Venom movie, the latter group of moviegoers may struggle…

How long is Venom?

Sony’s Venom adaptation clocks in for a total of two hours and 20 minutes.

Not to mention an end credit scene for Venom brings it closer to two-and-a-half hours of screen time.

All movies, but particularly the superhero ones, have a lot of exposition to do.

Venom has to build an entire world based on a comic less ubiquitous than the likes of Superman.

VENOM: WILL CARNAGE APPEAR IN THE VENOM MOVIE?

Due to Venom’s distinct separation from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony was unable to rely on the shared knowledge of Spider-Man fans to inform the Venom world.

The characters appearing in Venom, besides the title character himself, have never been seen in cinemas before.

How well the movie uses those two hours and 20 minutes remains to be seen.

Until yesterday, a strict embargo was placed on all critics who were treated to early screenings of Venom.

Now, they have been allowed to share social media reactions – but reviews remain under wraps till tomorrow, October 3.

Most critics were not kind to the Sony adaptation, leading many to suspect the two hours and 20 minutes will feel especially long.

The Venom movie follows Eddie Brock, a journalist trying to take down the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation: Carlton Drake in an attempt to reinvigorate his career.

The official synopsis continues: “While investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie’s body merges with the alien Venom — leaving him with superhuman strength and power.

“Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.”

How much time the film devotes to Eddie’s life before his career was left in tatters and his attempts to resurrect it lead him to the Life Foundation remain to be seen.

The trailer is fast-paced and hints at the aforementioned twisted and dark themes of the movie.

But according to critics, over such a long runtime the pacing is awkward and stilted.

Of course, fans can be either very forgiving or exceptionally harsh.

Whether a re-edited cut of the film, like that of The Last Jedi, finds its way to YouTube remains to be seen.

Tom Hardy was recently quoted saying his favourite scenes had been cut.

Those 40 minutes worth of scenes would have put the movie at a whopping three hours and 10 minutes.

Perhaps their exclusion was a blessing in disguise.
