Venom end credits scene: Who was THAT? What do they mean for Venom 2?

The Marvel Spider-Man spin-off is released in the UK today and featured two end credits scenes.

While the post-credits scene was a clip from the upcoming Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse, a film set in another film universe to Venom, the mid-credits scene was most intriguing.

The clip, which was teased in a leak a few days ago, saw Hardy’s Eddie Brock head to a local prison to interview a serial killer.

Entering a maximum security cell, Eddie came across Woody Harrelson’s character in a straight jacket and big ginger wig.

Woody teases that he is a serial killer and when he gets out of jail “there’ll be carnage.”

So what’s going on here? Who is he?

Marvel fans will know Harrelson’s character as Cletus Kasady, a serial killer with a symbiote like Eddie with Venom and Carlton with Riot.

Carnage is a supervillain from the Marvel comic and the archenemy of Venom, while also being a notable adversary of Spider-Man.

Since Harrelson only cameoed, there’s no doubt he’s signed on for a Venom sequel with Hardy. Perhaps the film will be called Venom vs Carnage

Harrelson recently told Collider: “I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”

While Hardy said to Total Film: “We’ve signed up for three of them.

“So, it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it.”

So far Venom has 28% positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, so the franchise’s sequel isn’t looking so good.

Although if Hardy’s prestige as a star can surpass the critics’ and get the audiences in, perhaps the film will make enough money to warrant Venom 2.

Let’s just hope he actually gets to face off against Spider-Man in the future.

Venom is out now in UK cinemas and is released in the US on October 5.
