Avengers 4 title ‘revealed’ in latest rumour: Is THIS the name of Infinity War sequel?

The so-called leak has begun doing the rounds online overnight, although it’s important to note that Marvel have not officially announced the name of the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War.

MCU Cosmic, a website that frequently publishes rumours and leaks relating to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, claims the movie is called Avengers: Annihilation.

If true, it means the blockbuster will share its title with a Marvel Comics miniseries from 2006.

That particular story saw the characters facing Annihilus, with Thanos also playing a key role.

But whether or not the comics would play a role in the influence of the story is unclear, as directors Joe and Anthony Russo previously insisted the movie would be an original tale.

“I don’t think there are any comics that correlate to it,” Joe Russo told ComicBook.com back in May.

“I think we’re in pretty fresh territory with Avengers 4. If anything, I think it’s interesting after to go back and look at some of the Marvel films and view them through a different lens.

“But I can’t think of any comics in particular that would have value.”

Avengers 4 remains largely surrounded by mystery, after the spectacular ending of Infinity War earlier this year.

That movie saw half of all living things in the universe being killed when Thanos collected all of the Infinity Stones – with the deal toll including multiple heroes.

Many of those heroes are presumed to be returning in some capacity, especially as many of them have been spotted attending reshoots in Atlanta, USA, over recent weeks.

But whether they’re back from the dead for good, or appearing in some other dimension or realm, or even via flashback, remains to be seen.

Mark Ruffalo recently indicated that the ending of the movie has not yet been set in stone.

“We’re not just doing reshoots,” he told The Marvelists podcast. “We’re going to finish the movie, which we really didn’t get to finish totally when we left it last year.

“I don’t even know that they really know exactly if it is happening while we’re there.

“It’s pretty amazing. And we’ll shoot some stuff and a few days later come back and reshoot it ’cause we wanna take it in another direction.”

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
