Overlord release, cast, plot, trailer: All you need to know about the Nazi zombie movie

While JJ Abrams is busy directing Star Wars Episode 9, his production company’s newest movie Overlord has released its final trailer.

The title may spark some confusion over where it belongs, with rumours initially claiming Overlord would be part of the Cloverfield series, also produced by Abrams.

Overlord is officially a standalone film, adding another title to Abrams’ long list of accomplishments as a producer.

What is the release date of the Overlord movie?

The original release date of Overlord was planned for October 26, 2018, but in July 2018 it was announced the release date would be pushed back.

Overlord will now be out in UK cinemas on Wednesday, November 7, 2018.

American audiences will receive the movie two days later on November 9, 2018.

Footage from the movie premiered at CinemaCon in April 2018 and the first trailer arrived on July 18, 2018.

The film premiered at Fantastic Fest 2018, on September 22, 2018.

Who stars in the cast of Overlord?

Like Cloverfield, Overlord does not have a star-studded cast.

Jovan Adepo of The Leftovers stars as Pvt. Boyce alongside Wyatt Russell from the episode of Black Mirror titled Playtest as Sgt. Ford.

Other cast members include Mathilde Ollivier as Chloe, Pilou Asbæk as Dr. Wafner, Jacob Anderson as Grady, Iain De Caestecker as Chase, John Magaro as Tibbet, Bokeem Woodbine as Eldson, Gianny Taufer as Paul, Chloe’s brother, Dominic Applewhite, Michael Epp, and Éva Magyar as Aunt Chloe’s aunt Simone.

Overlord is being directed by Julius Avery, whose previous project Son Of A Gun starred Ewan McGregor.

The script comes from Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith.

What is the plot of Overlord?

The official plot synopsis reads: “On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to penetrate the walls of a fortified church and destroy a radio transmitter.

“As the soldiers approach their target, they soon begin to realize that there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.

“Making their way to an underground lab, the outnumbered men stumble upon a sinister experiment that forces them into a vicious battle against an army of the undead.”

Overlord blends elements of a variety from genres, from war films to action, movies, sci-fi flicks and supernatural horror.
