Lady and the Tramp: Who stars in the Disney live-action remake of Lady and the Tramp?

Disney has been making live-action remakes for many years, from Glen Close’s performance as Cruella De Vil to the more recent outing of Emma Watson as Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

The latest classic to be reinvented for live actors is none other than Lady and the Tramp.

Live-action remakes of these tales as old as time are big performers for Disney at the box office.

Expected to debut on Disney’s own streaming service in 2019, there is still plenty of time to speculate about how a live action treatment will go down.

Who is in the cast of Lady and the Tramp?

Granting her voice to one of the eponymous characters is Tessa Thompson as Lady.

Thompson has shot to fame for her varied and nuanced portrayals, from Bianca in Creed to Jose in Annihilation.

She is joined by Justin Theroux who lends his voice to the character of Tramp.

Other voice actors include the musician and actress Janelle Monae as Peg, the most recent addition to the cast.

Benedict Wong (of Doctor Strange and Avengers: Infinity War) voices Bull, with Ashley Jensen playing a gender-swapped Scottish terrier Jackie (originally Jock in the animated film).

Kiersey Clemons (Dope) and Thomas Mann (Me Earl and the Dying Girl) will play the human stars, Darling and Jim Dear.

Yvette Nicole Brown, best known for her role in the TV series Community, plays Aunt Sarah.

Other cast members include Michael Tourek, Matt Mercurio, Adrian Martinez, and Arturo Castro.

The live-action version of Lady and the Tramp will be directed by Charlie Bean.

Bean is the man behind The Lego Ninjago Movie, and he has worked extensively on American animated series such as Samurai Jack and TRON Uprising.

Andrew Bujalski wrote the script for the live-action Lady and the Tramp.

While Lady and the Tramp is a story well-loved by many, it did not debut to critical success.

At the time of its release, Bosley Crowther of The New York Times wrote: “The sentimentality is mighty, and the CinemaScope size does not make for any less aware of the thickness of the goo. It also magnifies the animation, so that the flaws and poor foreshortening are more plain.

“Unfortunately, and surprisingly, the artists’ work is below par in this film.”

Since then it has grown in cultural appreciation.

The American Film Institute named Lady and the Tramp number 95 in their 100 Greatest Love Stories of All Time list.

TIME called Lady and the Tramp one of The 25 All-TIME Best Animated Films in 2011.

Reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the Disney movie a 90 percent approval rating.

The original was released in 1955 and starred Barbara Luddy as Lady and Larry Roberts as Tramp.
