Kate Middleton is to appear at this event today

Kate Middleton will open the Victoria and Albert Museum’s new photography centre today in her first visit since becoming the museum’s patron.

The Duchess of Cambridge will tour the centre’s inaugural exhibition, Collecting Photography: From Daguerreotype To Digital.

The mother-of-three to Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, who was born in April, is a fashion fan.

At St Andrews University the Duchess achieved a 2:1 in History of Art.

The new V&A exhibition is an exploration of photography from its invention in the 19th century up to the present day and is drawn from the V&A’s collection of over 800,000 photographs.

Kate will meet the curators who have worked on the project before unveiling a plaque to mark the centre’s official opening.

She became patron of the V&A in March 2018.

Among the exhibits are prints from William Henry Fox Talbot, one of the pioneers of the developing process, 18th century portrait photographer Julia Margaret Cameron and war photographer Roger Fenton.

The new centre will more than double the space in the museum dedicated to photography.

This is only the third time Kate will appear in public after the end of her maternity leave.

On Wednesday last week she attended St. Stephen’s School in London and met a number of children.

Kate Middleton wore an outfit worth over £1,005 to the school.

Yesterday an expert revealed why Kate Middleton cut her hair after giving birth to Prince Louis.

Claire Smith from The Baby Show told OK! magazine claimed there is a very sensible reason for new mums to cut their hair.

She said: “Many mums have enough to worry about when they have a new baby and their hair is often one of the last things on their mind, so it becomes a natural option for many to make it more manageable and cut it shorter.

“Kate is extremely lucky to have lovely thick hair and whether she has it long, or short, it looks beautiful.”

Kate’s hair has been much admired for its thickness and shine since her relationship with Prince William came to light.
