Mission Impossible’s Claire Phelps: What actress Emmanuelle Beart looks like now
It paved the way for a huge franchise that has so far spanned five movies, with a sixth on the way.
But what became of Emmanuelle Béart, who played Claire Phelps in that first film?
The character didn’t make it out of that first film alive, ruling her out of appearances in any later films.
But French star Béart, now 53, has continued to enjoy success.
Although she has rarely graced Hollywood since her turn opposite Tom Cruise, her acting career has continued successfully, with arguably her best-known work being 2002’s 8 Women – for which she won the European Film Award for Best Actress.
At the César Awards, she also picked up a nomination in 2001 for Best Actress thanks to her work in Sentimental Destinies.
Away from the movie cameras, in 2003 she appeared nude in the French edition of Elle, causing the entire run of 550,000 copies to sell out in three days.
In 2012, she went on the record speaking out against plastic surgery – saying she regretted having work done on her lips in 1990.
Beart’s most recent role was Beyond the Known World, about a warring couple going searching for their 19-year-old daughter in India.
Mission: Impossible 6, meanwhile, is due out next year.
Henry Cavill and Rebecca Ferguson join Cruise, with direction coming from Christopher McQuarrie.
