A Christmas Carol cast: Who stars in the voice-cast of A Christmas Carol?

You have never seen A Christmas Carol like this before.

Everyone knows the story of Scrooge and the three ghosts of Christmas – or so they think.

A new radical adaptation of the Charles Dickens’ classic is heading to cinemas.

Directed by Jacqui Morris, David Morris, the new adaptation is set to bring A Christmas Carol into the political sphere – as, perhaps, it was always intended.

Who stars in A Christmas Carol?

Of the cast, Andy Serkis is perhaps best versed in voice work, having lent his vocal talents to a number of CGI and animated characters.

Serkis played Gollum/Smeagol in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, for which he wore a motion-capture suit.

Recently, Serkis voiced Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Episode VIII of the contemporary trilogy.

Not only has he also has voiced Baloo in a live-action remake of The Jungle Book called Mowgli, but he directed the project too.

Simon Russell Beale is also in the list.

Beale is a venerated actor who has appeared in everything from film to stage.

Most recently he starred in Operation Finale as David Ben-Gurion.

Martin Freeman of Sherlock fame joins the cast.

Freeman has been known to tackle an array of projects, from the likes of Ghost Stories to The Hobbit trilogy.

Carey Mulligan lends her voice to the cast as well.

Mulligan gained critical acclaim for her role in An Education and has starred in movies like Inside Llewyn Davis, Far From The Maddening Crowd, and Suffragette.

Bringing another level of class to the cast is Dame Siân Phillips.

Phillips began acting at the age of 11 and has been a non-stop force ever since.

She may be best known for her role as Livia in the BBC adaptation of Robert Graves’s novel I, Claudius.

On par with Phillips is fellow cast member Leslie Caron, a Franco-American actress who has appeared in 45 films between 1951 and 2003.

Last but certainly not least, breakout star Daniel Kaluuya.

Kaluuya rose to cult fame for his role as Posh Kenneth in the TV Drama Skins.

Since then, Kaluuya has made a name for himself as a talented, nuanced performer.

He starred in Jordan Peele’s Get Out and has since gone on to appear in Black Panther and the movie Widows.

According to the British Film Council, this adaptation of A Christmas Carol: “seeks both to exhume the original story’s gritty commentary on social inequality and the corrupting influence of greed, and to breathe new life into the lyricism of the original text by setting its scenes to extraordinary tableaux of modern dance.”

“The opening scenes of the film follow a Victorian family preparing a toy theatre for their annual performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

“As the family’s grandmother narrates the much-edited story and her grandchildren change the scenery, we enter the imagination of one of the children in the audience and watch as the cardboard stage, and the story with it, transforms into a darkly fantastical otherworld.”
