Bohemian Rhapsody release date: When does Bohemian Rhapsody come out in cinemas?

Queen may be one of the most ubiquitous rock bands of all time.

Their rock-anthems have permeated most of the world and it’s almost impossible to hear the opening thumps of We Will Rock You without joining in.

The biopic was mired in a bit of controversy as well as plenty of casting switches.

But the movie about the band’s infamous and much-missed frontman Freddie Mercury is heading to cinemas soon.

When is Bohemian Rhapsody out in cinemas?

The UK, perhaps fittingly as Mercury’s home country, is the first to get the film.

Bohemian Rhapsody is out in the UK on October 24, 2018, along with Ireland on the same date.

American Queen fans have slightly longer to wait.

The movie arrives in cinemas in the USA on November 2, 2018.

But fans in Spain have longest to wait, with a release date of December 28, 2018.

Bohemian Rhapsody has been in the works since 2010 when Queen’s guitarist Brian May told the BBC he wanted to make the movie.

It wasn’t long before casting began, with Sacha Baron Cohen set to play Mercury.

But three years later, Cohen left the project – on good terms – due to creative differences.

According to Classic Rock Magazine: “We thought there has to be no distraction in the Freddie movie.

“You have to really suspend that disbelief – the man who plays Freddie, you have to really believe is Freddie.

“And we didn’t that could really happen with Sacha.”

By 2016, Rami Malek (who rose to fame as the protagonist of Mr Robot) was in talks to play Freddie Mercury.

Bryan Singer was set to direct from a screenplay by Anthony McCarten.

But the Queen movie wasn’t out of the woods yet.

After Thanksgiving weekend (the fourth Thursday in November), Singer failed to return to the set and no one could get hold of him.

By December 4, Singer had been fired as director and replaced by Dexter Fletcher.

Given the setbacks and reshuffles, the imminent release of the film is auspicious.

Trailers have shown Malek completely disappearing into the role, and anticipation for the movie is higher than ever.

Bohemian Rhapsody is out in cinemas October 24, 2018.
