Outlaw King on Netflix: Does Chris Pine really bare all in Netflix historical drama?
Outlaw King has been turning heads since its debut at the Toronto Film Festival in October.
In the incredible true story, Chris Pine plays Robert the Bruce, who waged the first war of Independence for Scotland against England.
Pine’s performance has been lauded, and the movie overall has received positive reviews.
But there is another reason many movie-buffs have their curiosity piqued.
Does Chris Pine bare all in Outlaw King?
Yes, there is a full frontal nudity shot in Outlaw King.
But Chris Pine isn’t quite sure why everyone is so obsessed with it.
Pine’s chagrin comes from the fact that his co-star, Florence Pugh, also has a fully nude scene and no one is commenting on it.
In an interview with the Press Association, he said: “I’d love to have an interesting conversation about why is it funny or pithy or a conversation to be had about that, whereas Florence is not.
“Is she expected to do that because she is a woman and I’m not expected to do that because I’m a man? What is it really? I don’t know, totally.”
He added: “People are giggling about my penis as if we’re schoolchildren.
“There are movies with people sawing their heads off and you can show that to a 13-year-old in my country and it’s not a problem.
“You show two people having sex and your mother’s got to hide you from it.
“And if you distil that down, there’s something about showing intimacy which is verboten, but showing violence which is thumbs up.”
“I think it’s certainly a marker of our puritanical culture where, if people make love or show what God gave us, it’s somehow NC-17 and you can disembowel, behead… you can do all sorts of crazy sh*t like that and people are like, ‘yeah that seems right’.
“Let’s put a big mirror up to us and say, ‘why? What’s going on, guys?’”
The scene in which Pine is filmed naked sees him coming out from a lake after a bath.
So, exactly when you’d expect someone to be naked.
As to whether or not the nudity was ‘necessary’, Pine also had an answer.
“In exploring this kind of man who is to be called king and treated like a king, I thought it was important to see the king and the animal, the man and the animal – that his feet are in the mud.
“That he is both violent and primitive and bestial, but also something else.
“So I thought to see the human de-clothed and as his animal self is really important.”
Outlaw King is out on Netflix on November 9, 2018.
