James Bond: THIS major contender to replace Daniel Craig just ruled himself OUT
Taron Egerton, most famous for his work in the Kingsman films, has never been a frontrunner for the 007 gig but his name has constantly been in the frame. In fact, at time of writing, he has odds of 33/1 with Ladbrokes; putting him on par with Andrew Lincoln, Jack O’Connell, Damian Lewis, Dan Stevens and Jamie Bell.
However, the British star has admitted that the Kingsman films have made Bond less appealing – even if he’d be honoured to get the call.
“Because I made my name in a spy-thriller franchise, it holds less appeal,” List quotes him as saying.
“Of course if Barbara Broccoli or whoever might be replacing her called, I would be honoured, but…”
Still, he’s a big fan of James Bond and took plenty of inspiration from the franchise.
“[Roger] Moore is my favourite Bond,” he said.
“I think we borrowed more from him than any other.”
Egerton doesn’t need to look too far for the man who is current the favourite to be the next 007: Richard Madden, his new Rocketman co-star, is currently the odds-on tip.
With Ladbrokes the Bodyguard frontman has odds of 4/5, ahead of Tom Hiddleston on 9/4 and Idris Elba on 5/1.
Still, we remain a long time away from learning who Daniel Craig’s successor will be.
The incumbent actor will start filming his final caper with the franchise next year, ahead of a release on Valentine’s Day 2020.
Only once that is all done and dusted are bosses likely to reveal his replacement.
Egerton’s new film Robin Hood is out on Friday.
