Mamma Mia 2: Plans for THIRD movie – stars open up on potential surprise plots

The follow-up to the 2008 original was a huge success over the summer; and in the UK it came within touching distance of its predecessor’s record-breaking box office gross. Attention has since turned to whether or not another film is viable, and the cast have given their views – albeit without much of a straight face.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Hugh Skinner – who plays a young Harry Bright – suggested the characters of Bill, Sam and Harry find out once and for all who Sophie’s dad is.

“Jeremy Kyle paternity test,” he quipped.

Jeremy Irvine (Young Sam) agreed: “With a huge build-up, like an hour-and-a-half build-up.

“A whole chat show, studio audience, who knows, maybe surprise guests?”

Meanwhile, Jessica Keenan Wynn – who played Young Tanya – had a slightly more sensible option.

“I think this is a platform for Cher’s story to shine,” she said.

“A young Ruby, so Cher meeting Señor Cienfuegos [Andy Garcia],” Lily James snowballed.

“You hear they met in Central America and she had her heart broken so you can see their romance. We’ve figured out he’s probably Donna’s dad. I think they have to go there.”

Amanda Seyfried has seemed less enthusiastic about the idea of a third film.

“I feel there is enough ABBA music for sure but I’m gonna say the same thing I said 10 years ago: I don’t f-ing think so,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

“It seems like it would be ridiculous. But now anything can happen!”
