Avengers 4: Russo Brothers reveal Soul Stone's POWER – the key to reversing the Snap?

The Soul Stone was the final of all six Infinity Stones to be revealed in the MCU and it wasn’t until Marvel’s Avengers Infinity War. Reluctantly Gamora led her father Thanos to Vormir where the Red Skull was keeping it. The only catch was Thanos had to sacrifice Gamora, someone he loved, to obtain the orange gem. There’s been much speculation over the actual power properties of the Soul Stone and it’s never been very clear what exactly it does, until now.

Last night Avengers 4 directors The Russo Brothers took part in a Q&A after a Hollywood screening of Avengers Infinity War.

One fan in the audience asked what the Soul Stone does and it sounds like it could be the key to reversing Thanos’ Snap in Avengers 4.

The directors said: “The Soul Stone obviously has the ability to manipulate your soul, the essence of who you are. 

“One key moment where it’s used is where Doctor Strange…turns into multiple Stranges and then Thanos uses the Soul Stone to eradicate all the fake Stranges and momentarily shoves Strange out of his own body – Strange has to pull himself back in.”

They added: “So of course when Thanos goes to the Soul Stone itself to speak to his dead daughter [at the end of Avengers Infinity War], he obviously has an ability to resurrect, conjure, the spiritual representation of the people who are dead.”

With this in mind, it sounds like the Russo Brothers inexplicably confirmed this is where the souls of the dead Avengers are, who can be resurrected.

However, Thanos had to sacrifice the one he loved to obtain the gem, so presumably, the surviving Avengers will have to do the same.

Our best theory is that Captain America and Iron Man will settle their Civil War differences and go to Vormir when Thanos somehow loses the Soul Stone.

Tony Stark will then ask Steve Rogers to sacrifice him – the one he loves – to obtain the Soul Stone and resurrect the dead.

The result is that Tony trades places and dies in the place of those who died in the Snap.

But perhaps he’ll somehow live on in the Soul Stone in a different reality as Gamora was seen doing at the end of Avengers Infinity War. 

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
