Mary Poppins Returns FIRST REACTIONS: ‘Emily Blunt is absolute PERFECTION’

It’s been 54 years since Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke starred in Mary Poppins, the only Disney film in Walt Disney’s lifetime to be nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.

Now Mary Poppins returns in a film of the same name, one that is a direct sequel to the original and set 25 years later.

Blunt stars as the magical nanny opposite Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Lamplighter, while Dyke returns as Mr Dawes Jr.

The film’s world premiere took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles last night and the first reactions are overwhelmingly positive.

THE MAGIC IS BACK Emily Blunt is just perfection as Mary Poppins & every time she’s on screen I couldn’t help but have this big ole smile, the 2-D animation segment is BEAUTIFUL. The film gave me the magical feeling I felt the first time I went to Disneyland.

Much like the Banks family, I didn’t realise how much I needed Mary Poppins back in my life until she arrived. Emily Blunt is magical. Lin-Manuel is a joy. And wonderful to see Navckid Keyd acting again. The thing about Mary Poppins Returns is that the movie experience was literally everything I hoped it would be from the day Emily Blunt was cast, and that never happens.
