Avengers Infinity War directors reveal what Iron Man's thinking in THAT Spider-Man moment

It was one of the most heart-breaking moments in Avengers Infinity War. After Thanos successfully collected all six Infinity Stones he snapped his fingers and half the universe began to turn to ash. Back on Titan Doctor Strange and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy died first, but then young Peter Parker went up to Iron Man and told his mentor he wasn’t feeling too good. Holding him in his arms, Spider-Man cried to Tony, “I don’t want to go”, before falling to the ground and saying, “I’m sorry”, and turning to dust.

Holland famously improvised the scene, one that was a real tear-jerker for Marvel fans.

Last Wednesday Avengers Infinity War directors took part in a Q&A after a screening of the film in Hollywood.

And one fan asked: “What’s going through Tony’s mind when Spider-Man dies?”

The Russos replied: “I think he’s feeling like he lost a child. It’s about as painful as it can get for him.”

Their response is hardly surprising with audiences having witnessed the Father/Son relationship blossom since Spider-Man’s introduction to the MCU in Captain America Civil War.

What’s even more heartbreaking is that Iron Man had just made Peter an Avenger and he failed to keep him safe.

But with Spider-Man Far From Home due next summer and no sign of Tony Stark in sight, we have an ominous feeling what’s going to happen in Avengers 4.

Our best theory is that Captain America and Iron Man will settle their Civil War differences and go to Vormir when Thanos somehow loses the Soul Stone.
