Steve Coogan in Greed: FIRST LOOK and official cast REVEALED

Greed may not sound like a funny movie, but it is, in fact, a comedy with a bonafide comedic-gold cast.

The movie is being directed by Michael Winterbottom, who worked previously with Coogan on The Trip.

Rumour has it the movie is a fictionalised and satirical take on the life of retail tycoon Philip Green.

Film 4 and Sony, the production companies behind Greed, have released a first look photo of Coogan in the lead role, and the official cast list.

Who stars in Greed?

Steve Coogan stars as the lead, a luxury retail billionaire celebrating his 60th birthday.

His wife is played by Isla Fisher, and David Mitchell also stars as a mild-mannered journalist Coogan’s character has hired to write his life story.

Other cast members include Stephen Fry, Sarah Solemani (Him & Her), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Asa Butterfield (Hugo) and Jonny Sweet (Loaded).

The cast is also joined by Pearl Mackie (Doctor Who), Sophie Cookson (Kingsman) Shirley Henderson (Trainspotting), model Shanina Shaik and stage actor Dinita Gohil.

Made in Chelsea’s Ollie Locke will also cameo in Greed.

According to IMDB, Manolis Emmanouel plays Demetrious, with Stephen Evans as a Store Manager and Ben Hickey as Young Adrian.

The inclusion of Ben Hickey’s character name hints that Coogan’s character will be named Adrian, but nothing has been confirmed.

The plot of Greed follows the build-up to a 60th birthday party Coogan’s character is throwing in an exclusive hotel on the Greek island of Mykonos.

Film4’s Head of Creative Ollie Madden has been quoted saying: ‘We can’t think of anyone better to take on the excessive world of business moguls and the super-rich than Michael Winterbottom and Steve Coogan.

“Together with Sean Gray, a great production team and brilliant ensemble cast, we know they’re going to make something both funny and with a genuine sting in the tail.”

Laine Kline from Sony Pictures said: “We couldn’t be more delighted to be teaming with Film4 for this picture.

“Damian, Melissa and Michael have done an astronomical job assembling a brilliantly talented comic ensemble for this hilarious satire.”

This is not the first collaboration between Coogan and Winterbottom.

The pair’s other collaborations include 24 Hour Party People and The Look Of Love.

Greed is being co-written by Winterbottom and Sean Gray (The Thick Of It).

Filming on Greed has recently wrapped, and the movie will be timely and, undoubtedly, funny.

Greed’s tentative release date is scheduled for late 2019.
