Captain Marvel is heading to the cinema with a full-fledged solo movie. But the hero was teased at the end of Avengers: Infinity War and many believe her to be the saviour of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her expected cameo in Avengers 4 has raised a question in the minds of fans who have spotted a potential hurdle. The Captain Marvel film is set in the 1990s and Avengers 4 takes place in present day.

How old will Captain Marvel be in Avengers 4?

Captain Marvel will be twenty-plus years older in the film but not look it.

Fans, eagle-eyed and not, have spotted something potentially incongruous in the two upcoming Marvel films.

In 1995, Captain Marvel appears as present-day Brie Larson, alongside an age-regressed Samuel L Jackson.

In present-day Avengers 4, Captain Marvel also appears as present-day Larson, according to the leaked Avengers 4 concept art.

When Marvel announced the Larson helmed movie would take place in the 90s, fans came up with two theories as to how the studio would get around the age problem.

The first theory ties into the prevailing Avengers 4 plot theory having to do with time travel.

The second theory was that Carol’s lack of significant ageing is down to her half-Kree DNA.

With the second Captain Marvel trailer, the latter theory has been proven true.

During the scene featuring Annette Bening as a yet unnamed character, the actress can be heard explaining some of Carol’s backstory.

She explained that the Kree found Carol with no memory of her past life.

She goes on to say: “We made you one of us. So you could live longer, stronger, superior. You were reborn.”

There you have it, Carol Danvers’ incredible skin twenty years after the events of Captain Marvel is down to her half-Kree DNA.

Danvers’ slow ageing also means that Avengers 4 can travel through time willy-nilly and have no impact on the way Captain Marvel looks.

When Nick Fury sends Captain Marvel the distress call at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel will still be in her prime.

The slow-ageing also lends itself nicely to more Captain Marvel movies, which could take place any time from the late 90s to mid-2020s.

And then there could be the use of age-regression technology employed deftly in Captain Marvel for any future sequels.

With only two months between the Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 release dates, fans have a lot to look forward two next spring.

Following swiftly after Avengers 4 is Spider-Man: Far From Home, with a release date of July 5, 2019.
