Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse: Will there be an Into the Spider-Verse 2?

Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse tells the long-awaited, dearly beloved, story of Miles Morales. Morales is one of many to don the Spidey mask, and in Into the Spider-Verse, he teams up with Spider-People from other dimensions to fight the bad guys. The animated hit has a laudable 97 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. With a formidable voice cast and impeccable aesthetic, Into the Spider-Verse is setting a new bar for Spider-Man movies.

Will there be a Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse sequel?

According to Metro US, the answer is a whole-hearted yes.

Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender series) will direct and David Callahan (The Expendables, Wonder Woman ’84) will direct the Spider-Verse sequel.

The sequel will, understandably, follow Morales in a new adventure, though what the adventure will be, remains to be seen.

A Spider-Women spin-off is also in the works and will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, with a screenplay from Bek Smith (Zoo).

Rumour has it the Sider-Women spinoff will focus primarily on Spider-Gwen.

In an alternate dimension, Peter Parker has died, and Gwen Stacy is the one to have been bitten by a radioactive spider.

The spin-off is also rumoured to include Spider-Woman, Spider-Girl, Silk, and the enigmatic Madame Web.

Into the Spider-Verse’s co-director Rodney Rothman told Metro: “In terms of the immediate future everyone is genuinely just looking to rest and spend time with their families.

“Going forward everything is still getting figured out,” he added.

“We have been really pleased with how audiences have responded to the movie.

“Especially the bigger risks that we took. Which were scary for us.

“But that has been one of the most gratifying things for us. Seeing those risks pay off and that audiences enjoy them.

“So I think going forward that is really the key part of the thinking, not just in telling these stories.

“But how we can keep pushing Miles’ story and the visuals and all those things and stay with the spirit of this movie and the spirit of experimentation and pushing boundaries.”

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is being heralded as reinvigorating the superhero franchise.

Though still wildly popular, Superhero movies have become similar in theme and to be able to shake up the formula has proven fruitful.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is now playing in cinemas.
