James Bond 25: Major co-star hints he WON’T be back with Daniel Craig for new movie

Ben Whishaw has played Q in the last two movies, and it was recently reported that he would be back alongside Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris and Lea Seydoux. But now, amid promotion for his new movie Mary Poppins Returns, the British star has hinted that may not be the case after all. So will James Bond be in need of a new Q?

“I’m not even sure if I’ll be in it,” he told Vanity Fair.

“I’m assuming that I’m not going to be so it will be a nice surprise if they put me in.

“I think it’s right [director Cary Fukanaga] and Daniel need to just figure it out. I’ve done two; I’ve had a good run.”

Looking back on Skyfall, he said: “I was in a film that people actually saw.

“I mean, [that] lots of people actually saw – and that really changed things.”

Bond 25, which doesn’t have an official title just yet, will start filming in March ahead of its release on Valentine’s Day, 2019.

Cary Fukunaga is directing it, and recently spoke out about what he loves about the series.

“Over the years, you’ve seen a lot of different iterations not only of Bond but of films that have mimicked it or copied it,” he told IndieWire.

“So I think the exciting part actually is going to the original source and being able to play in a sandbox.

“Genres come with tropes and expectations and in the post-modern era, you can deliver exactly what’s expected of the genre, or you can try to twist it in an intelligent way which subverts the genre but still stays faithful to it.”

The filmmaker added: “So, when you’re drawing from a certain style, you can play with audience expectations while still surprising them — and the nature of creativity is that limitations are often times good things, because when you’re facing the overwhelming vastness of creative potential, to have defined routes to take for a story or style are helpful in determining how far you want to veer from it.”

Bond 25 will be released in cinemas on February 14, 2020.
