Bohemian Rhapsody was a resounding success for Mr Robot actor Rami Malek, who secured the Best Actor award on stage alongside surviving Queen members. Flanked by both Brian May and Roger Taylor, the actor was all smiles while accepting the award, which he later dedicated to Freddie Mercury. While Rami was accepting his award at the ceremony last night, he thanked both Queen and Mercury himself.

Malek dedicated the award to Mercury, who died from AIDS complications in 1991, saying: “This is for and because of you, gorgeous!”

He added: “To you, Brian May, to you, Roger Taylor, for ensuring that authenticity remains in the world and in all of us.

“Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime.”

Malek’s portrayal of the tragic former pop star has been hailed by critics as a resounding success.

The next stop for him will be the Oscars, where he will be looking to scoop yet another Best Actor award.

Will Rami Malek win the Oscar for Best Actor?

Rami Malek’s career has brought him a number of award nominations before, including two Golden globe nominations for Mr Robot.

He has also won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while playing fictional hacker Elliot Alderson.

Now, it seems the star will be destined for an Oscar when the awards roll around in February.

Rami Malek is currently odds-on to win the Oscar for best actor come February.

Bookmakers Ladbrokes have slashed odds for the him to secure the award after his recent Golden Globes win.

They have slashed odds from 3/1 to 4/7, sitting out front in favour with bookies.

This means he is out ahead of Christian Bale, who recently starred as Dick Cheney in ‘Vice’ who has odds of 9/4, and Bradley Cooper from ‘A Star is Born’ at 3/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s looking increasingly likely Rami Malek’s exceptional performance as Freddie will see him pick up yet another Best Actor gong.”

The Oscars will be presented next month, on February 24.

Before then however, members of the academy will be voting for their favourite nominees, from Best Actor to best Foreign Language Film.

Voting for the winners starts today, off the back of the Golden Globes, and will close next week on January 14.

Nominations will then be announced on January 22, and each name announced will be invited to a luncheon later on February 4.
