Venom 2 CONFIRMED: Exciting update for Tom Hardy sequel

Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off may have garnered a measly 28% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was a hit with audiences. No doubt thanks to Tom Hardy’s likability as a bankable star, Venom made over $855 million on a $100 million budget. The sixth highest-grossing film of 2018, which smashed a number of box office records, is now being followed up by a sequel. According to Variety, Venom 2 is underway, with one of the original film’s screenwriters having been brought on to write it.

Sources say Kelly Marcel’s deal was “a significant one” in terms of her payday, while she is also set to executive produce the sequel.

There’s an untitled Marvel sequel set for release in October 2020, so it’s likely this will be for Venom 2.

But what exactly will Hardy’s follow-up be about?

Well, fans will remember Venom’s end credits scene featured Eddie Brock heading to San Quentin prison to interview a serial killer.

The murderer turns out to be Cletus Kasady, portrayed by Woody Harrelson in a straight jacket and big ginger wig.

He tells Eddie that when he gets out of jail “there’ll be carnage.”

Comic-book fans will know Cletus Kasady, as a serial killer with a symbiote like Eddie with Venom and Carlton with Riot.

Carnage is a supervillain from the Marvel comic and the archenemy of Venom, while also being a notable adversary of Spider-Man.

Since Harrelson only cameoed, there’s no doubt he’s signed on for a Venom sequel with Hardy. Perhaps the film will be called Venom vs Carnage

Harrelson told Collider last year: “I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”

Venom 2 will likely release in October 2020.
