Bohemian Rhapsody: The HUGE thing Rami Malek would CHANGE about Freddie Mercury film

The rock biopic has destroyed box office expectations, surging past a whopping $740million worldwide. In doing so, it also destroyed the negative spin thrown at the movie by critics who believed it did a grievous disservice to the reality of Freddie’s life. Riding high on a wave of critical and awards acclaim, Malek himself has revealed his thoughts on the way Freddie’s story has been told. The star strongly wishes one major part of the Queen frontman’s personal life had been addressed more fully.

Malek acknowledged that the filmmakers had wanted to include as much as they could but there was simply no space in a single movie. Nor did they want to dwell on the “salacious” aspects of Freddie’s life at the expense of celebrating his achievements and impact.

Despite the negative comments, the movie does not avoid the fact that Freddie had gay relationships and contracted HIV, leading to his death from complications arising from AIDS. The movie also shows Freddie meet and fall in love with his final partner, Jim Hutton.

But Malek still wanted more.

Malek said: “We have two hours. And in those two hours I know that those men want to celebrate Freddie’s life, and there was definitely a cognizant effort not to make this a hedonistic, salacious film.

“I think we all would have loved to show more of Freddie’s relationship with Jim [Hutton] toward the end of his life. That relationship is absolutely gorgeous, and if I had it my way, boy, would I love to tack on another hour to this film and fill in a few gaps. It’s never going to be perfect in fulfilling the story of a man who we could make countless documentaries about and countless miniseries about.”

Following the rapturous response to the movie from fans, it is likely that an extra hour would have been welcomed by audiences.

Malek’s performance is so extraordinary, it is as close as anyone will ever get to having Freddie back.

Of course, this opens up the question of whether a sequel could be made. Brian May has already discussed the possibility of portraying the events that followed Live Aid up to Freddie’s death. Fans have rejoiced to see their idol back on the screen alive and well. Are they really prepared to also lose him all over again?
