Cinema ALONE: Brits seeking solitary trips to movies at NEW high – especially millennials
Is it anti-social to go to the cinema by yourself? Even though we don’t talk – well at least shouldn’t – to our peers at the movies, it’s usually a social activity we like to do with others isn’t it? Nevertheless, new research by Showcase Cinema has discovered that Brits are spending more voluntary time alone than ever. In fact, visiting the cinema on one’s lonesome is as popular as meditation for escapism.
According to a survey of 2000, it turns out that 24% of Brits confess to attending the cinema by themselves up to three times a year.
While more than a third said they prefer going to the cinema alone, and a quarter felt it helped them take in more of the storyline.
In fact, solitary movie watching out was just as popular as meditation and yoga for millennials aged 25-34.
But compared to the visiting the cinema alone, only one in eight Brits would go to a bar on their own and just 10% would have a meal by themselves.
