The Question Time audience member Mohammed Ullah, who works as a chaplain in the city’s university and campaigns against Islamophobia, took aim at the sickening suicide bomber’s campaign of hate amid a swarm of condemnation from the city’s muslim community.

Abedi killed 22 men, women and children in his vile attack on the city’s Manchester Arena after an Ariana Grande concert.

His victims included 8-year-old Saffi Rose Roussos and 15-year-old Olivia Campbell, whose mother broke down on Good Morning Britain before it emerged her daughter had died.

Mr Ullah said: “I am Manchester. I was born in Manchester, I was raised in Manchester.

“I am a proud Manc and a proud Muslim, and when Manchester hurts I hurt.

“I’m hurting after what happened on Monday.

“And what happened on Monday night was an evil act, an abhorrent act which should be condemned with the strongest condemnation.

“To think that somebody can target small girls – and anybody but especially small girls to carry out evil – it should be said by everybody that it’s evil.”

The Mancunian went on to call for his city to come together and fight against the divisions sewn by the Manchester Arena attacker.

He said: “But let me make a plea. I’m sitting next to a reverend here, a friend who I have known and worked with in Manchester.

“It seems that muslims tend to be the target and the collateral damage when these things happen.

“Islam is not the reason that people do bad things, people do bad things because they’re evil and they’re bad people.”

Mr Ullah added: “Let’s be united together and Manchester will be united.

“We should work together, stand shoulder to shoulder and say Manchester will no accept hate, and will stand against islamophobia and we condemn all evil in all its forms.”

Speaking to the Salford audience, Andy Burnham called Manchester “the greatest city in the world”.

Mr Burnham said: “This has been our darkest hour, but I would also say we’ve seen the best of Greater Manchester as well this week.

He added: “We are not going to be beaten by this, we will stand together and I’m telling you tonight this is the greatest city in the world and I couldn’t be more proud of it.”
