Star Wars: The Last Jedi is NOT Luke Skywalker? Rian Johnson just dropped a huge hint

As part of a new interview with Vanity Fair, director Rian Johnson has faced questions on its meaning – and he may have dropped a couple of telling clues.

Firstly, he debunked claims that it’s in the plural – after overseas translations appeared to make it so.

“See, that’s the funny thing,” he said. “I heard that in the foreign translations for the title, they made it plural.

“In my head, it’s singular. It makes sense with the story, to me, that it’s singular.”

Pressed on who it is, he unexpectedly said that he wasn’t expecting people to question who specifically it refers to.

But he did address the most obvious person: Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

“One would think, let’s say this, that at the end of Episode VII it refers to Luke, because of the notion that this religion has died out and he is the last of them.”

When the interviewer picked up on his use of the words “one would think”, he added: “One would think.”

So can we take that as a hint that it’s NOT the obvious person? Or is Rian hinting that, in fact, it is?

It was feared that The Last Jedi had landed in the hands of hackers when it was reported that an upcoming Disney movie was facing threats of an online leak, but it now seems that that was all a hoax.

Disney boss Bob Iger has told Yahoo Finance: “To our knowledge we were not hacked.

“We had a threat of a hack of a movie being stolen. We decided to take it seriously but not react in the manner in which the person who was threatening us had required.”

He added: “We don’t believe that it was real and nothing has happened.”

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is out on December 15.
