Us movie FIRST REACTIONS: ‘F***ing TERRIFYING and traumatising – a horror masterpiece’

He won an Oscar for Get Out, is heading up The Twilight Zone reboot and now has premiered his new horror movie at SXSW Film Festival. Peele’s Us sees a family hunted by a group of strangers who look exactly like them. The film stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke and the first reactions are incredibly good. Here are some of the highlights so far.

It should surprise no one that Ua is a very satisfying (and anxiety-inducing) follow up to Get Out. What’s more fascinating: that a high-concept Funny Games/Hitchcock/Cronenberg/Bradbury mashup could feel so fresh at the same time.

Us frays your nerves with exacting precision, ambitious original ideas, and moments that will traumatise (in… the best way, as great genre films do?) a whole generation of youngs who sneak in to see it. Also: Lupita. Is. INCREDIBLE.

Jordan Peele’s Us is absolutely nuts! Deliriously horrific, incredibly inventive, it has elements of the home invasion & zombie movies, but it is unlike anything I have ever seen. Wildly captivating from start to finish.

So Us is a good time. REALLY. Winston Duke is fantastic, and assumes Peele’s humour well. Lupita is a carnal whirlwind. Shades of Jaws, Stepford Wives, the Shinning. Could have been shorter and maybe tries too hard to be a statement, like Get Out. But def. a win.
