Triple Frontier 2: Will there be a sequel to Netflix thriller? Oscar Isaac SPEAKS OUT

Netflix‘s latest thriller Triple Frontier has an impressive cast list. With Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garret Hedlund, and Pedro Pascal, the film has 73 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite some less than thrilled reviews, a sequel is on the forefront of fans’ minds…

Will there be a Triple Frontier 2?

Maybe; though there is no definitive answer and its star Oscar Isaac is also hedging his bets.

Warning: spoilers ahead for Triple Frontier.

Triple Frontier follows five former Special Forces operatives who plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America.

The operatives are Oscar Isaac as Santiago ‘Pope’ Garcia, Ben Affleck as Tom ‘Redfly’ Davis, Charlie Hunnam as William ‘Ironhead’ Miller, Garrett Hedlund as Ben Miller and Pedro Pascal as Francisco ‘Catfish’ Morales.

The twist to the heist film is the crime is pulled off cleanly.

It’s the getaway which goes wrong.

The fivesome’s helicopter ride over the Andes cannot cope with the weight of all the money they’ve stolen, and it crashes.

By the end of the film, one of them is dead and most of the money is lost – thrown into a cavern by Pope to prevent anyone else getting to it.

In the final moments, Ironhead hands Pope a slip of paper with the coordinates to that very same cavern.

Ironhead says: “Maybe we can go do something good with it one day.”

So, the film certainly leaves the possibility of a sequel open.

Oscar Isaac told Digital Spy: “I think JC Chandor’s movies – in general – they feel like a slice of life, even as crazy as this movie is.”

Isaac worked previously with Chandor on the lauded A Most Violent Year.

“You come to this story, the story already has been going on by the time we got to watch it, and it will keep going after we watched it.”

He added: “Whether everyone in the world watches it and Netflix wants to make another one, that’s another story.”

Other cast members include Adria Arjona as Yovanna, Reynaldo Gallegos as Gabriel Martin Lorea, and Sheila Vand as Lauren Yates.

Of the cast from Triple Frontier, almost all would be able to return for a sequel.

Except for Ben Affleck, whose character’s death was meant to be the emotional reckoning for the film.

But as our review said: “His death elicits nothing more than a shrug.”

Triple Frontier is now available to stream on Netflix.
