Avengers Endgame trailer: What do the new white Avengers suits mean?

The latest Avengers: Endgame trailer has been released online today. And of course, fans are parsing each frame for clues as to the plot of the final chapter of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though few details about the plot are known, fans and journalists alike have made some educated guesses…

What do the new white Avengers suits mean?

The Avengers: Endgame trailer dropped only a few hints as to the future of the Avengers.

But one of those was a bold new fashion choice for the superheroes.

Strictly speaking, these white suits from the trailer aren’t brand new.

A few months ago a leaked toy design revealed new white uniforms.

These uniforms have now been confirmed, but what they mean is still up for interpretation.

One interpretation has to do with the Avengers’ need to time travel, a plot point already confirmed by Marvel head Kevin Feige.

Phil Owen at TheWrap speculated the suits allowed the Avengers to accomplish this feat.

He wrote: “The Avengers would likely need some kind of suit tailored to that use since that kind of thing isn’t an innate ability.

“Like how Ant-Man has to wear his suit that was specifically made for shrinking and enlarging himself if he wants to, you know, shrink or enlarge himself.

“And if the Avengers are going to travel through time, perhaps by using the Quantum Realm as a shortcut (remember that line about a “time vortex” from Ant-Man and the Wasp), then it stands to reason that they would need special suits to actually do that.”

He also points out the curious case of who wears the suits.

The following heroes are not pictured wearing the suits in trailer:

Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Bruce Banner aka the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson).

What this means, however, remains to be seen.

Owen’s speculation is just that, speculation, but seems to have a strong foothold in well established MCU facts.

The trailer itself gives little context for its clips, some of which are flashbacks anyway.

How they all fit together will become clear when Avengers: Endgame finally hits cinemas.
