Sherlock Holmes 3 location: Where is Sherlock Holmes 3 set?

In 2009, Robert Downey Jr joined the ranks of the many actors to play the role of Sherlock Holmes. Along with Jude Law as Dr John Watson, the 2009 film was proceeded by a 2011 sequel. The as of yet untitled 2021 movie is ramping up to take Holmes and Watson on a whole new adventure.

Where is Sherlock Holmes 3 set?

A new rumour has it the film will be set in the American wild west, according to an unnamed source who spoke to HNEntertainment.

They reported the Sherlock Holmes 3 setting “is expected to be the Old West in the United States, specifically San Francisco, California.”

However, it bears reminding this is so far unconfirmed, so worth taking with a pinch of salt.

Moving the detecting-duo to America is not as much of a ‘jumping the shark’ moment as some fans might think.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself had a fascination with America and corresponded with American icons such as Houdini.

In addition, mention many of Doyle’s stories take place between 1880 and 1914.

This time period aligns with the timeframe of the ‘old west’ in America, from 1865 to 1895.

But to some, the timeframe for the wild west is extended to 1916.

The previous Sherlock Holmes films take place in 1890 and 1891 respectively.

But in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Law divulged there may be a more significant time jump in the threequel.

He said: “We hope to propel the story forward. As always, the essence of the story is their codependency.

“We’re going to examine — since it’s been several years since we’ve seen them — we’re going to play up the fact that they haven’t seen each other for a long time either.”

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything thread, Downey Jr himself replied to a fan: “Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development.

“We want it to be the best of the series, so that’s a pretty tall order.”

Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows was released on December 13, while the first Sherlock Holmes movie came out on December 25.

The Sherlock Holmes sequel is set for a December 25, 2020 release.
