The Silence film on NETFLIX: Is this the new Bird Box? It sounds ALOT like A Quiet Place

Horror is having a scream on the big and small screens recently. Us just smashed box office records, It Chapter 2 is heading our way later this year, A Quiet Place was the breakout hit last year and Bird Box dominated Netflix and water cooler conversations back in January. Netflix already has another one lined up next month which looks set to terrify us all over again. But some fans are convinced A Quiet Place stole some of its best ideas from The Silence.

The film makes its US and UK debut on April 10.

WHAT IS THE SILENCE ABOUT?

The story follows the imminent destruction of civilisation after huge bat-like monsters are discovered and start multiplying at an alarming rate and attacking humans. The monsters are blind and hunt by sound.

A family of four flees across the country seeking a safe haven and their teenage daughter Ally is deaf.

IS IT THE SAME AS A QUIET PLACE?

The Silence is adapted from Tim Lebbon’s cult 2015 novel. His fans protested when A Quiet Place was first announced, pointing out the blatant similarities of a world under attack from creatures who hunt by sound and a family with a deaf daughter. 

Filming started on A Quiet Place in 2015, after The Silence was published, but John Krasinski and his co-writers had been working on their story since 2013.

Lebbon answered fans in January: “Hi Folks … thanks for your comments and concerns. There are similarities, of course, but I’m confident that the movie of The Silence will stand on its own. It’s going to be epic!

“It is a little troubling, but I guess that’s all I can say about it.”

WHO STARS IN THE SILENCE?

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka plays Ally. She learned America Sign Language for the role.

The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Miranda Otto and John Corbett.
