Avengers Endgame: Box office takings will be HUGE – what do experts predict for Avengers 4
Avengers Endgame is three weeks away from its cinematic debut. But news of an early release in China has sent the box office into paroxysms of excitement. Industry experts are predicting an unprecedented profit for the final chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase three.
How much will Avengers: Endgame make at the box office?
According to Deadline: “If Endgame were to perform on par with Infinity War — and note these are unadjusted numbers — it would be looking at an $840M (£637.8m) worldwide opening.”
A major contributing factor to Endgame’s predicted success is its early Chinese release date.
In China, Avengers: Endgame will be out in cinemas on Wednesday, April 24, 2019.
That is a full day ahead of the UK, and two days ahead of its North American debut.
Unlike Avengers: Infinity War, and indeed many other blockbusters, Endgame will open in the Middle Kingdom alongside the other international markets.
Of course, there are differences between Infinity War and Endgame which could impact box office takings.
Endgame is almost 20 minutes longer, but anticipation for the fourquel is higher.
Infinity War also saw its Middle Kingdom opening after its North American and European openings, giving the film some traction before it hit Chinese cinemas.
How much the movie will make has been estimated by experts.
The opening weekend prediction is a 31 percent increase over Infinity War.
If Endgame can carry this increase throughout its run, the fourquel could make in the realm of $2.7 billion.
According to Fandango, Avengers Endgame has broken Star Wars The Force Awakens’ first 24-hour pre-sale record in just six hours.
Erik Davis, Fandango’s Managing Editor, said: “We’ve never seen anything like this, it’s truly a groundbreaking accomplishment – as fans simply cannot wait to see how this epic saga comes to a close.”
But pre-sale is not always an indicator of box office success.
Avatar, the James Cameron CGI feat, underperformed in presales but went on to make $2.78 billion at the box office ($100 million more than current estimates for Endgame).
Since tickets for the opening weekend are now so hard to come by, touts are reselling them for hundreds online.
And in a couple of cases, some resellers are hoping for amounts as large as $5000 and over $9000.
The anticipation for Avengers: Endgame is understandable.
The movie will wrap up a decade of storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
How the surviving Avengers will reverse Thanos’ snap remains to be seen.
But the newest trailer has given fans some hope the feat may come easier.
Yesterday’s trailer showed Endgame-era Thanos for the first time, complete with armour.
The fact that he’s wearing protective gear at all means he may be weak.
Fans were quick to point this out, along with other potential theories now bolstered by the newest trailer.
But all these theories remain to be proven true, or dashed, when Endgame makes its way to cinemas.
Avengers: Endgame is out in cinemas on Thursday, April 25, 2019.
