Royals across the world are known for their impressive jewellery collection and can be spotted wearing luxury tiaras for special occasions.

Many of these tiaras have been kept in the family for years and could be considered priceless.

One tiara that has been the property of royalty since it was designed 115 years ago is about to go on sale.

Originally designed as a wedding gift, the royal accessory will soon be available for bidders, but it won’t come cheap.

The tiara is going on sale in auction house Christie’s after it was first made in 1904.

The luxury item was made as a wedding gift for Princess Alexandra of Hanover and Cumberland from her husband Germany’s Frederick Francis IV, the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

The Grand Duke chose to go to the jeweller, Faberge, for the expensive gift as his mother, Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia, was a huge collector of the designer’s jewellery.

Designed to perfection, the tiara actually arrived a month after the wedding as the Grand Duke took so long to chose which gem stones he wanted on the design and Faberge’s sketches reportedly went missing.

The tiara features a number of aquamarines stones and diamonds on top of a floral silver and diamond design.

For those hoping to get their hands on the specially-made tiara, it will go on sale at Christie’s in Geneva on 15 May.

It will appear alongside other gems, but it will not come cheap with the pre-sale estimate price of $230,000 to $340,000, or £260,280.

The tiara design features forget-me-nots tied with ribbon bows that are said to signify true love and they are pierced by cupid’s arrows.

“It is an absolutely beautiful tiara with nine graduated aquamarines,” said Max Fawcett, a jewellery specialist at Christie’s.

“There are very few Faberge tiaras in the world today and when they do come up for auction they always get a lot of attention.”

Members of the British Royal Family are often seen wearing luxury jewellery from their collection of royal jewellery.

Sarah Ferguson, 59, is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, 59, and she was given some lavish jewellery from the Queen on her wedding day.

During the relationship, Sarah reportedly had £384,000 worth of a royal jewellery, but she has rarely wore this since her divorce leaving fans to wonder whether she still has the jewellery.

Other members of the Royal Family have been spotted wearing jewellery from the collection, but it is reported that Meghan Markle, 37, has now been banned from wearing pieces from the collection.

The Queen is said to have assured William, the heir to the British Throne, that Meghan will not wear any pieces worn by Princess Diana, according to Sun journalist Dan Wootton who discussed the story on ITV’s Lorraine.
