Star Wars 9: Mark Hamill reveals FAVOURITE Star Wars film – The Last Jedi?
In a world (or galaxy) where film stars rarely stray too far from the pre-prepared PR script for their movies, Hamill is a lone wolf. He’s been howling across social media for many years and walks a very fine line between supporting his beloved franchise and giving very heavy hints about his true feelings. In a major new interview to promote his new show Knightfall, he let a few more feelings out. He was naturally asked about Star Wars Episode IX and gave his views on the new trilogy, as well as the classic Original Trilogy. It really would be a massive shock if he said The Last Jedi was his favourite so far…
Asked about his experience working on The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, he admitted: “It has been challenging.”
Hamill was then asked for his favourite film in the franchise. He said: “I guess I’d probably have to go with Empire [Strikes Back], only because it was so unexpected to have the protagonist be so soundly defeated, losing the hand and the dad Vader, all of it was pretty unexpected.
“And it was so cerebral: Yoda is such an important addition to the mythology and I thought it was so clever of George, the concept of the Force, so that you could talk about religion and spirituality without making people uncomfortable. So for that alone.”
He also gave a very blunt response to the idea that “Star Wars fatigue” might be setting in for cinema-goers…
Hamill said: “I’m not gonna tell them how to run their business, but is there a possibility of ‘Star Wars fatigue’? Yeah, I think there is. I’ve experienced it, to a certain degree.”
It is a pertinent question. The Han Solo movie drastically underperformed and there are at least two film trilogies in the works following Episode IX, not to mention numerous small screen projects to help launch the new Disney+ streaming service.
Would Hamill consider coming back for more?
STAR WARS 9 TRAILER AND TITLE REVEAL AT STAR WARS CELEBRATION TOMORROW; WHAT TIME?
It would be almost impossible to see him on screen in any Star Wars project where he doesn’t play Luke, but the actor has also worked heavily as a voiceover artist for decades.
Would he be interested in doing the same for Star Wars?
Hamill teased: “Well, again, make me an offer.”
