The massive dust storm swept in over many towns in ’s Rajasthan on April 7 and sparked delays to flights in and out of the region. Shocking video footage from Vijay Kantiwal captures the moment a wall of dust engulfed a town in Rajasthan. Dangerous thunderstorms are also set to strike people living across Pakistan and northern India this week, according to AccuWeather.

The forecaster is warning the areas at the highest risk of dangerous thunderstorms and dust storms include Lahore, Chandigarh, New Delhi, Jaipur, and Agra.

Strong winds in the area prior to the arrival of the thunderstorms can cause dust storms from Tuesday and into Wednesday.

The dust storms can result in restricted visibility and cause travel disruption across the region.

The extreme weather can also bring with it strong and damaging winds which can cause further chaos for those living in the at-risk regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the dust storms will hit between April 15 to April 17.

The explained the reason for the sudden set of powerful storms is caused by a storm over Europe which is bringing rain to the north and northwestern India.

The IMD weather report warned: “A western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan region and northwest India from April 15 and cause enhanced rainfall activity with probable thunder squalls and hailstorms over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on April 16.”

Charan Singh, a scientist at IMD, also said: “In the next four to five days almost all parts of the country will be affected by thundershowers; it will intensify over northwest India on April 16 and 17.”

At least five people were killed and 36 injured in the Pakistani city of Karachi, after it was hit by strong winds and a brutal dust storm on Monday, local media have reported.

Last year a wave of powerful dust storms struck northern India and killed at least 70 people and left over 150 animals dead.

Storms lashed four districts of Uttar Pradesh, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Bijnore and Agra in May 2018.

Heavy rain and high winds knocked down electricity poles and trees, blocked roads and disrupted power supplies in the worst affected areas.
