James Bond 25 release date, cast, details and what we KNOW so far ahead of 2020 launch
Daniel Craig will return for his fourth and final outing as suave secret agent Bond, James Bond, in 007’s 25th film. Studio executives announced the film from Ian Fleming’s estate in Jamaica and revealed the new cast and plot. Filming has not yet begun on the nameless project, but the creative team has a provisional April 2020 release date. We can expect the traditional trappings of a James Bond affair, complete with a sinister new villain and impressive action.
What is the plot of James Bond 25?
MGM, the studio responsible for the James Bond franchise, released a short description for the 2020 release.
The official plot summary reads: “Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.
“His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.
“The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”
What is the cast of James Bond 25?
James Bond 25 naturally includes a massive cast, with both rising and veteran actors locked in for key roles.
At the launch, Daniel Craig appeared alongside French actress Lea Seydoux, Bladerunner 2049 star Ana De Armas, Moneypenny actress Naomie Harris and Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch.
Naomi Harris will reprise her role as Moneypenny, joined by Raph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw, who play M and Q in Craig’s films.
Rory Kenner will once again play MI6 chief of staff Bill Tanner.
Rami Malek – who recently won an Oscar for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody – will play the much-anticipated villain.
Official details of his character have not been revealed, and the actor did not attend the release, but he appeared via video to tease his involvement.
He said: “I’m stuck here in New York in production but I’m very much looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew.
“I will be making sure Mr Bond does not have an easy ride in this, his 25th outing. See you all soon.”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, acclaimed writer for the first series of Killing Eve and creator of Fleabag has been recruited as a writer for the film.
Stars have promised a fresh tack with the new film which changes with the times.
Talking to BBC News, Daniel Craig said: “Bond has always adapted for the times.
“But you’re dealing with a character who is flawed, who has issues, and I think that’s something that’s worth still exploring and grappling with.
“Of course, we wouldn’t be movie-makers or creative people if we didn’t have an eye on what was going on in the outside world.”
