Avengers Endgame Oscars: Odds SLASHED for Endgame nabbing Best Picture award

Avengers: Endgame brought an end to what directors Joe and Anthony Russo have dubbed the ‘Infinity Saga’. Fans and reviewers alike seem satisfied with their conclusion, with box office records decisively broken at £927 million ($1.2 billion) worldwide. As such a resounding success, the next step for the film would naturally be securing a win at the Oscars. Bookmakers in the UK have slashed odds of the film taking home an Academy Award.

Could Avengers: Endgame win an Oscar?

Avengers: Endgame is a unique film already adored by millions, but the standards a film has to meet in order to win an Oscar are sky high.

Superhero films are among the least likely types of film to net an Oscar.

However, there are some exceptions, as Marvel title Black Panther won one for its set design, costume design and soundtrack this year.

Before Endgame was released, Ladbrokes had odds pinned at 50/1 it could win an Oscar.

However, after April 25, these have been slashed to 16/1 as punters start to place bets.

The film is now up against a number of others which have not yet been released, including October 2019 film Joker.

Ladbrokes has released a full list of upcoming and recent film releases, and their odds of winning Best Picture.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s no surprise we’ve had to cut odds on Endgame scooping Best Picture following a flood of bets and raving reviews.”

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have thanked fans for their support in the box office.

Taking to Twitter, they said: “We want to thank everyone who’s been on this journey with us.

“We grew up in a big, loving family where stories were told at the dinner table to entertain each other.

“We now get to tell those stories to the world. All because of you. With much love and respect. The RB’s.”
