Avengers Endgame: Here’s how Iron Man and Captain America could RETURN after their endings
WARNING AVENGERS ENDGAME SPOILERS AHEAD. Following Avengers Endgame’s conclusion, it’s clear that we’re not done with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, who clearly will star in at least Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. But we had very definitive endings for both Iron Man and Captain America. Tony Stark died to defeat Thanos and save the universe, while Steve Rogers went back in time to marry Peggy Carter in 1945.
However, considering how fantastical the Marvel Cinematic Universe is these days, there’s room for future cameos from Captain America and Iron Man.
Firstly, Captain America is now 117-years-old, having been 105 (but 39 in appearance) when he travelled from 2023 to 1945 to live with Peggy.
An advanced age for sure, but let’s not forget Steve Rogers was buffed up by a special serum that turned him into a super soldier, so no doubt he has a longer than normal life expectancy.
And while he’s handed over the Captain America mantle to Falcon aka Sam Wilson, he’s still very much alive.
It’s not clear at this point if Rogers will remain in the primary timeline’s 2023 or if he’ll return to the alternate 2023 in the timeline he created where he lived with Peggy. This hasn’t been disclosed by Marvel yet.
Nevertheless, with a Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ miniseries in the works Cap could cameo.
Perhaps Sam will visit him in a retirement home, or Cap will finally die of old age and we’ll have a funeral scene like Peggy’s in Captain America Civil War.
But there’s also another way that a younger Cap played by Chris Evans could return for a proper cameo one day.
Considering the use of time travel in the MCU, it’s perfectly possible for an older Evans to return as Cap one day.
MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad theorised: “In 10 years, when the New Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four are nearly being beat by Annihilus, a portal will open and out will step a slightly older Chris Evans holding the shield. The theatre will go insane.”
Presumably, the explanation would be that Cap pops to the future from the 1950s, when he’s in his late 40s, to help in a battle in the late 2020s/early 2030s before returning home.
Such cameos aren’t uncommon in other Sci-fF creations, with Doctor Who seeing former Doctors returning for anniversary specials thanks to time travel.
DID YOU SPOT THAT CAPTAIN MARVEL CHARACTER CAMEO IN AVENGERS ENDGAME?
Similarly, this is how Iron Man could one day return. That’s if Tony Stark were brought to the future before his death in 2023.
And it’s not like Marvel Studios are bad with modern de-ageing technology.
It’s probably a long way off, but don’t bet this is the last we’ve ever seen of Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans in the MCU.
Avengers Endgame is out now.
