Luke Perry buried in mushroom suit, daughter reveals

Former Beverly Hills 90210 star Luke Perry was buried in an eco-friendly suit made from mushrooms, his daughter has revealed.

Perry, who also acted in the Riverdale series, was 52 when he died in March five days after suffering a stroke.

His daughter Sophie, 18, said one of his wishes was to be buried in the suit, writing on Instagram that he was “more excited by this than I have ever seen him”.

She wrote: “Any explanation I give will not do justice to the genius that is the mushroom burial suit, but it is essentially an eco-friendly burial option via mushrooms.

“My dad discovered it, and was more excited by this than I have ever seen him.

“He was buried in this suit, one of his final wishes.

“They are truly a beautiful thing for this beautiful planet, and I want to share it with all of you.”

The suit’s creator Coeio says it is “completely biodegradable”, speeds up decomposition and neutralises toxins from the body, transferring nutrients to plants.

The suit was created by Jae Rhim Lee about a decade ago.

Ms Lee had studied unorthodox relationship between the mind-body-self and the natural environment while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Her company’s website says the mushrooms used are chosen for their capacity to digest dead human tissue.

It says: “At any given moment, there are a million fungal spores, bacteria, and even viruses in the air, on every surface, and even in your own body competing for nutrients.

“Your body, when alive, has a natural defence mechanism (your immune system!) to fight off these microorganisms.

“Your body, when dead, no longer has an active immune system and will therefore become food for any organism.”

Perry, meanwhile, will appear in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood in his final film role later this year.
