Spider-Man Far From Home: When is Spider-Man 2 set? Is it before or after Endgame?

Spider-Man Far From Home sees Peter Parker join his classmates for a European vacation. The first trailer, which was released in January, was purposefully vague. Spider-Man was a victim of Thanos’ snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, and fans were left wondering when the Spider-Man sequel would take place. Warning, major spoilers below.

Spider-Man Far From Home takes place directly after Avengers: Endgame, according to the director John Watts.

Speaking to Fandango, Watts said: “We don’t say specifically how far after, but the idea is that it’s almost immediately after the events of Endgame.

“So we get to see the neighbourhood from the first movie dealing with the implications of all of the crazy fallout of Endgame.

“And, you know, in classic New York style, everyone is just moving on and getting on with their daily lives.

“You know, half the people that disappeared are now back, so let’s move on.”

When the first trailer was released, many fans believed it was a hint that Spider-Man and those snapped in Avengers: Infinity War would be resurrected for Avengers: Endgame.

At the time, Vox wrote: “The trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home has arrived at a curious time, given that Avengers: Infinity War saw the webslinger get vaporized along with half of all living creatures when Thanos snapped his fingers.

“Thus, because Spider-Man has already “died” in another movie, he will have to be revived in Endgame to carry on in this sequel.

“So in a roundabout way, seeing Peter Parker alive and slinging in Spider-Man: Far From Home is confirmation that Spidey and others will be resurrected in Endgame.”

But how he was resurrected is only known by those who have seen Endgame.

The plot of Spider-Man Far From Home reads: “Peter Parker’s relaxing European vacation takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury suddenly shows up in his hotel room.

“Parker soon finds himself donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury stop the evil Mysterio from wreaking havoc across the continent.”

Jake Gyllenhaal plays Quentin Beck/Mysterio and Cobie Smulders returns as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s favourite right-hand-woman, Maria Hill.

Avengers: Endgame is now playing in cinemas. Spider-Man Far From Home is out on July 2, 2019.
