Crystal Palace defender slammed by fans for Liverpool SUPPORT after Barcelona win
Liverpool ran out 4-0 winners at Anfield in one of the best comebacks in recent years last night, stunning Lionel Messi and co. to get through to next month’s final.
Two braces from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum sealed Barca’s fate, as the Catalans failed to take their chances in the first half and struggled to deal with Liverpool’s attacking presence in the second.
Luis Suarez – who was booed throughout from all corners of the ground – was criticised for his performance having failed to have any success up against Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.
After the game, van Aanholt took to Twitter to praise the Reds, but his words were not welcomed by football fans.
“Anyone who can’t be happy for Liverpool right now are not fans of football,” he wrote.
“Tonight was a write off and against all odds they just showed the world what the Premier League is about.”
Crystal Palace fans weren’t the only ones annoyed, as supporters of rival teams also got involved in criticising the left-back’s social media post.
“Klopp isn’t going to sign you,” one wrote.
Another posted: “Pat I love you mate but no. This isn’t it.”
One fan posted: “‘Fans of football’ are never happy for their rivals. Football is tribal. You of all people should know that.”
“Out of my club,” another wrote.
One posted: “Totally clueless as to what football fans think.”
Liverpool will now head to Madrid on June 1 to take on either Ajax or Tottenham.
Ajax hold a 1-0 lead going into tonight’s game (8pm) at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
Donny van de Beek’s vital away goal gives the hosts the advantage, but Spurs will no doubt be inspired by Liverpool’s heroics as they look to get to their first ever European Cup final.
