Aladdin: Naomi Scott drops surprise bombshell about Speechless – NEW Princess Jasmine song

The Disney live-action movie is hitting cinemas worldwide – and the song is resonating with fans. In the UK, it has ascended to No35 on the iTunes charts, and the music video has topped one million views on YouTube in under a day. In the film, it’s split into two parts – and Scott has revealed an interesting behind-the-scenes fact.

It’s the norm for musical numbers in movies to be performed to pre-recorded studio vocals, with no audio coming from the actual on-set footage.

Scott had previously explained that there are moments of live singing in Aladdin – but speaking to YouTuber Will King, she revealed that the first part of Speechless was completely live.

“What’s really interesting with what we did with a lot of the songs is I sung live a lot,” she said.

“The first Speechless is completely live.

“It took a bit of time because everyone has to be quiet on set and they’re actually recording sound; there’s no playback.

“But I think it made for something that felt more connected.”

She added: “Similarly, for the second Speechless, that first part where the guard’s taking me out, that’s live. Until I turn around and kind of go into it.

“A lot of it was a one-shot, so I didn’t get loads of takes – but I don’t think it needed that.

“You get that sweet spot when you’re present and then you go. I think we did four takes overall.”

Scott is joined in the cast by Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Will Smith as the Genie, with the film released in the UK midweek and the US today.

Reviews have been mixed: currently it has just scraped a Rotten Tomatoes score of 61%, narrowly beating the 60% threshold necessary for a movie to be certified as “fresh” rather than “rotten”. Yesterday it was on 59%.

Its audience score is even better: at an impressive 90%. The CinemaScore grade will be out this weekend.
