In The Secret Life of Pets sequel, Max the terrier must cope with some major life changes when his owner gets married and has a baby. When the family takes a trip to the countryside, nervous Max has numerous run-ins with canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a scary turkey. Luckily for Max, he soon catches a break when he meets Rooster, a gruff farm dog who tries to cure the lovable pooch of his neuroses.

What is The Secret Life of Pets 2 age rating?

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rates The Secret Life of Pets 2 a U movie.

A U rating means the movie: “should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over, although it is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child.

“U films should be set within a positive framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.”

“If a work is particularly suitable for pre-school children, this will be indicated in the ratings info.”

The BBFC cites three themes for parents’ consideration when taking under-four-year-olds.

They are threat, violence, and language.

The BBFC cited the element of threat in three particular scenes.

They wrote: “Pets are chased by a sinister circus ringmaster and his wolves.

“The ringmaster threatens a performing tiger with a whip and an electric prod.

“A frightened dog tries to rescue a lamb from a perilous cliff face.”

The violence cited is: “A rabbit and a monkey fight with martial arts blows.”

The language cited is mild, and includes ‘jerk’ and ‘dopes’.

Finally, the BBFC added: “Rude humour includes occasional references to poop and flatulence.”

Many of the same characters are back, including Max, this time voiced by Patton Oswalt.

Eric Stonestreet voices Duke, a large, brown, shaggy mongrel who lives with Max.

Kevin Hart voices Snowball, a white rabbit who was integral to the plot of the first film.

Jenny Slate voices a white Pomeranian and Max’s love interest named Gidget.

Ellie Kemper voices Katie, Max and Duke’s human owner.

Lake Bell voices Chloe, a large and apathetic grey tabby cat.

Dana Carvey voices the elderly Basset Hound Pops, whose back legs are paralyzed.

Hannibal Buress voices Buddy, a laid-back dachshund.

Bobby Moynihan voices Mel, a hyperactive pug.

New to The Secret Life of Pets are Tiffany Haddish as a Shih Tzu, Nick Kroll as Larry, Pete Holmes as a Russian Blue cat, and most importantly the antagonist.

Harrison Ford lends his voice to Dr Francis, the villainous vet.

The Secret Life of Pets 2 is now playing in UK cinemas.
