Chris Hemsworth reveals which huge movie he almost QUIT: ‘I was really scared’

The star is best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; most recently in the phenomenally successful Avengers: Endgame. He’s also appeared in a number of other high-profile projects, including Star Trek, Snow White and the Huntsman and its sequel The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Bad Times at the El Royale, Rush and – as of this week – Men In Black: International. But there’s one particular job he considered pulling the plug on, just hours before he was due on set.

Speaking in a new interview, he said it was his role as Kevin Beckman in Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot that terrified him.

The reason? Feig had seemingly told him he would write more into his role, but instead called upon Hemsworth’s improv skills.

“The night before I was shooting, I almost pulled out,” he told Variety.

“Three or four weeks prior, Paul said to me, ‘I’m going to write up the character. Don’t worry.’ And then I got the script and nothing had changed.”

After his agent set up an emergency meeting with Feig, it was revealed that Hemsworth would be improvising much of the work – which is now referred to as “one of his favourite roles to date”.

“I was really scared walking onto that set,” the Australian actor added.

“I had no real plan, so I was just feeding off of them, and I just felt ridiculous. So I used that.”

Ghostbusters was swamped by misogynistic controversy upon its release, and particularly vile misogynoir directed at Leslie Jones.

Sequel plans appear to have been dropped, but it did fare reasonably well with critics – garnering a 74% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a B+ grade from audiences on CinemaScore.

Fast forward to 2019, and Hemsworth’s next venture – Men In Black: International – sees him reunited with Marvel co-star Tessa Thompson.

Sadly the early critical reactions for the new tale are not exactly positive: it has a franchise-low score of 30% on Rotten Tomatoes at time of writing.

Men In Black: International is out tomorrow.
